Tom Middleton-Leonard is a Newton-le-Willows Independents representative and former candidate for Newton-le-Willows East.
Tom is a Newton-le-Willows resident who cares deeply about the town and the people who make it such a special place to live. He believes local politics should be about listening, working hard, solving problems and putting the community first.
Community involvement is important to Tom. Alongside his full-time job, he regularly volunteers locally, including helping at a community pantry that supports residents with access to affordable food and everyday essentials. He has also helped at events across Newton-le-Willows, including Family Party in the Park, Newton-le-Willows Bike Fest and a local Santa float, supporting activities that bring families and neighbours together.
In his professional life, Tom works in governance and has experience improving how organisations operate within a financially regulated industry. His work focuses on clear records, fair decisions, following rules properly and making sure processes are transparent. He believes these skills are important in local government, where residents deserve honest decisions, clear information and careful use of public money.
Tom stood for Newton-le-Willows East because he believes residents need strong, visible representation and a clearer voice in decisions that affect the town. He is particularly committed to openness around major developments such as Parkside and Tritax, which will shape the future of Newton-le-Willows for years to come.
Although Tom was not elected, he remains part of the Newton-le-Willows Independents team and continues to support Terry Maguire, Karl Collier and Craig Smith in their work for the town. Tom’s approach is based on fairness, respect and practical action: listening to residents, working with others to solve problems, and helping build a town where people feel proud, included and heard.
