Karl Collier is an elected Newton-le-Willows Independents councillor for Newton-le-Willows West.
Karl grew up in Newton-le-Willows and has always believed the town deserves strong, visible and independent representation. He was first elected in 2022 after seeing the impact of Terry Maguire’s work as the town’s first Independent councillor. Since then, Karl has worked alongside Terry to build a stronger local voice for residents and businesses.
Karl’s approach is rooted in being approachable, active and accountable. He believes councillors should be visible in the community, available to residents, and focused on practical action rather than party politics. He has helped hold regular ward surgeries with Terry at Cross Lane United Church and Crownway Community Centre, giving residents the opportunity to raise issues directly and get support with local concerns.
During his time as a councillor, Karl has worked on the issues that matter most to local people, including safer and cleaner estates, highways concerns, local services, community projects, and the future of Earlestown town centre and market. He has also supported key milestones in the Earlestown regeneration, with a focus on protecting local heritage, improving the town centre, and ensuring residents’ voices are heard.
On St Helens Council, Karl has served on committees including Planning, Standards and full council. He has challenged wasteful spending, questioned large council tax rises, and pushed for smarter decisions that protect services while giving residents better value for money.
Karl believes Newton-le-Willows needs councillors who live locally, listen locally and work locally. As part of the Newton-le-Willows Independents, he remains committed to putting residents before party politics and ensuring the town has a strong independent voice.
