As a newly formed local group, our policies are shaped by real conversations with residents and a clear understanding of the needs of Newton-le-Willows. We believe local decision-making should reflect local voices, not national party agendas.
Below you’ll find our core policy priorities, which set out the principles and direction we share as Newton-le-Willows Independents.
While we are united by these commitments, we are not bound by party control. Every one of our candidates and councillors is independent, free to listen to residents, consider the evidence, and vote in the way they believe best represents their community.
Our approach is simple: No party whip. No imposed voting lines. No pressure to follow a national agenda. Just honest, accountable, resident-first decision-making.
We will continue to develop and refine our policies in partnership with local people, and we will always be clear and transparent about where we stand so residents can hold us to account.
We support responsible regeneration that delivers real, lasting benefits for Newton-le-Willows, protecting our town’s identity while creating new opportunities for residents.
Developments such as Parkside represent a major change for our area and must deliver for local people. That means creating good-quality local jobs, supporting apprenticeships and training, and ensuring that local businesses have opportunities to benefit. Crucially, infrastructure must keep pace, including road networks, public transport, schools, and healthcare services, so that growth does not place additional strain on existing communities.
Large-scale developments, including those involving Tritax and other major developers, must be subject to thorough and transparent scrutiny. Residents deserve clear information, honest engagement, and confidence that decisions are being made in the best interests of the town, not simply driven by outside interests.
As an independent group, we are not bound by national party positions. Each councillor will assess developments like Parkside on their individual merits and vote in line with the views and needs of Newton-le-Willows residents. Growth must be shaped by our community, not imposed upon it.
Everyone in Newton-le-Willows should feel safe in their neighbourhood, whether in the town centre, residential estates, or local parks.
We will push for a stronger visible police presence across the town, particularly in areas where residents have raised concerns about anti-social behaviour, vandalism, and nuisance activity. A visible and approachable police presence helps build trust and reassures the community.
We will work with Merseyside Police, the council, and local partners to take consistent and effective action against anti-social behaviour, including in known hotspot areas. Early intervention, youth engagement, and enforcement all have a role to play in creating safer streets.
We will also support regular local meetings where residents, businesses, and police can come together to raise concerns and agree on practical solutions. Our focus is on ensuring that issues are not ignored and that residents see real, timely action.
Residents in Newton-le-Willows deserve clean, well-maintained neighbourhoods that they can take pride in.
We will work closely with housing associations, landlords, and the council to improve the standard of estate management across the town. Issues such as litter, fly-tipping, graffiti, and poorly maintained communal areas must be addressed quickly and consistently.
Repairs and maintenance should not be delayed or overlooked. We will push for housing providers to meet clear service standards, improve communication with tenants, and respond promptly when problems are reported.
As independent councillors, we will stand up for residents and hold housing providers to account where standards fall short. Our priority is simple: ensuring that people living in Newton-le-Willows are treated fairly and that their concerns are taken seriously.
Newton-le-Willows is fortunate to have valued green spaces such as Mesnes Park and other local open areas that are central to community life.
We will champion continued investment in these spaces to ensure they remain safe, clean, and accessible for everyone. This includes improving play areas, maintaining paths and lighting, and ensuring facilities are fit for purpose.
We are committed to protecting local green spaces from inappropriate development while also enhancing biodiversity and exploring opportunities for new or improved community spaces.
Our parks should serve all residents, from young families to older people, and provide places where the community can relax, exercise, and come together. As independent representatives, we will ensure that decisions about these spaces reflect the priorities of local people.
Newton-le-Willows has a strong sense of community, built on local groups, volunteers, churches, and community organisations. We are committed to supporting and strengthening these vital networks.
We will push for better communication and responsiveness from council officers, ensuring that residents receive timely updates and clear answers when they raise concerns. People should not feel ignored or left waiting for action.
We will actively support community centres, local initiatives, and voluntary groups that bring people together and provide essential support across the town. These organisations are key to tackling isolation, supporting families, and creating opportunities for residents of all ages.
Our independent approach means we can focus fully on the needs of Newton-le-Willows, working collaboratively with residents and local organisations to build a stronger, more connected community.
Newton-le-Willows should be a town where everyone feels welcome, respected, and valued.
We believe in treating all residents with dignity and fairness, regardless of their background, gender, race, sexuality, age, or beliefs. Discrimination has no place in our community, and we will always stand against it.
We will support initiatives that promote inclusion, equality, and understanding, helping to ensure that our town remains a place where people from all walks of life can feel at home.
As an independent group, we are guided by principles, not party politics. Each councillor is free to represent their residents honestly and fairly, making decisions based on what is right for the people of Newton-le-Willows.
